A Yeshiva alumnus for both his undergraduate and doctoral degrees, Halpert reigns as the longest serving NCAA men's basketball coach in New York City history, helming the program for 42 years. He remains the fourth-longest tenured coach nationwide, and when he finally stepped down from his post in 2014, left with 416 wins to his name.

Halpert has remained an active member of the YU community even in retirement, being named to the Yeshiva Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023, as well as representing the program in the New York State Hall of Fame, to which he was named in March of this year.
