Women’s Fencing Struggles in 2009 Installment of Vassar Invitational

NEW YORK, NY – The women's fencing team took part in the annual Vassar Invitational this past Sunday, but were unable to get a win against the field of 6 schools.  The competitions were the first of the season for the fencing team, who will travel to Tufts this weekend for another Invitational.

Against West Point, the first game of the season for Yeshiva, Shani Zitter won all three of her foil bouts, accounting for nearly half of the 8 points Yeshiva scored.  Nurita Abramowitz won her first Epee bout of her collegiate career in the match.

In the team's 4th match, against host Vassar College, the Maccabees fell 20-7.  First year Sabre competitor Lisa Ast grabbed her first ever win as a Maccabee.  In the next match against Sacred Heart, two Maccabees got their first collegiate bout wins; Leah Avner (Epee) and Sharona Sutton (Sabre).

This weekend the women are traveling to Tufts to take part in a match against Steven's Tech, Wellesely, and Tufts.
