(Farmingdale, NY) – Sophomore Zachary Stern (Columbus, OH/Columbus Torah Academy) scored for the second time this week, and junior Daniel Rosenthal (Panama City, Panama/IAE) made eight saves, but the Yeshiva University Men's Soccer team lost its fifth straight game to open the 2008 season, 12-1 to Skyline Conference powerhouse Farmingdale State on Sunday at Farmingdale. With the loss, YU is now 0-5.
The game was a tale of two halves as Farmingdale State (2-2, 1-0 Skyline Conference) took 18 of the game's first 20 shots during a first-half run that saw the host Rams score three goals during the first 10 minutes, eight goals overall, and take an 8-0 lead into halftime. Had Rosenthal not stepped in to make six saves during the stretch, the score could have been a lot worse.
The second half saw YU turn things around as Yeshiva was outshot 9-7 and outscored 4-1. Stern put the Maccabees on the scoreboard at 76:21 with a gorgeous outside blast that somehow found its way into the goal. Stern accounted for five of Yeshiva's nine shots.
Overall, the Maccabees were outshot 27-9 and Farmingdale had five corner kicks compared to Yeshiva's three.
Yeshiva returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 17 when they travel to Mount Saint Vincent for an 8:00 p.m. start. The game will be played at Yeshiva's home field of Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, New York, but the Maccabees will be the away team.
