Season Statistics
As the Yeshiva University women's fencing team is in preparation for its next battle in the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA) it has competed at two invitationals so far, including the Vassar College Invitational on Nov. 10 and the Johns Hopkins Invitational on Nov.24. At both meets, the Maccabees competed against stellar teams from around the region.
At the season opening meet in Poughkeepsie, Yeshiva competed against the host Brewers, along with Stevens Institute of Technology, the United States Military Academy, Sacred Heart University, Tufts University, Haverford College, Cornell University and Wellesley College. At the Johns Hopkins event, the Maccabees squared off against the home team, as well as New Jersey Institute of Technology, University of Maryland and University of Virginia.
As a unit, Yeshiva has won 52 of 324 overall bouts. Twenty of those wins have come in foil and 16 each in epee and sabre.
In epee,
Dina Eghbali has a team-high nine wins, while in foil
Deena Gilboa has earned nine victories. In sabre,
Yakira Abramowitz has picked up a team best five wins.
The Maccabees are yet to earn an overall win on the season, but they have outscored opponents in several sword battles, including a 6-3 score against the University of Virginia in sabre and a 5-4 score in foil against the United States Military Academy. Against the United States Military Academy in foil Gilboa won all three of her matches to propel the Maccabees to a higher score in that sword.
After this Sunday's event, Yeshiva will be off from competition until February when the Maccabees compete in the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) on Feb. 9 at Hunter College, followed by the EWFC Individual Championship at Stevens Institute of Technology.
