BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University softball team kicked off its inaugural doubleheader at Mary LeVine Field in grand style Tuesday afternoon, as the Maccabees combined for 31 runs and a .472 batting average in capturing a doubleheader sweep against host Sarah Lawrence College.

YU used the mercy rule to end both games early, scoring an 11-3 victory in six innings in the opener, before exploding for a 20-5 triumph in the five-inning nightcap.

Yeshiva's softball program is slated to become a full-fledged varsity squad within the next few years.

Sophomore shortstop Erin Potasnick (Teaneck, N.J.) hit for the cycle on the afternoon, going 6-for-9 with team-highs of six runs scored and nine RBI at the dish. She raked two doubles, one triple and a long home run to dead center field -- the first in Macs' history -- in the second contest.

Junior designated player Alyssa Greenberg (Cedarhurst, N.Y.) went 6-for-7 with six RBI, four runs scored and four of Yeshiva's 16 stolen bases in as many attempts on the day. Her 4-for-4 display with four RBI and one stolen base in the opening contest set the Macs' single-game hits mark, before Potasnick matched it with a 4-for-5, eight-RBI effort in the nightcap.

Leadoff hitter and left fielder, senior Lindsay Wess (Los Angeles, Calif.) registered a 5-for-6 day, scoring four times and swiping three bags.

In total offensively, 13 student-athletes on interim head coach Steve Schucker's squad picked up hits in the first twinbill in program history.

In the pitcher's circle, senior Meira Lerner (Sharon, Mass.) allowed just a .209 batting average against on the day, firing all 11 innings with a 1.91 earned run average (eight runs, three earned) and four strikeouts.

Yeshiva never trailed on the day, scoring six combined runs (four in game two) in the opening inning of play. In the nightcap, Potasnick's three-run round-tripper to straightaway center field highlighted the Maccabees' top-scoring inning , as YU batted around en route to a six-run frame.

Schucker's Yeshiva side is next scheduled to compete at Mary LeVine Field on May 5, as part of the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Championships.
