POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University women's fencing team was defeated in its season opener by seven schools at the Vassar College Invitational on Sunday, November 9.
The Maccabees lost to Army 19-8, Haverford College 25-2, Hunter College 14-13, Sacred Heart University 27-0, Stevens Institute of Technology 23-4, Tufts University 26-1 and Wellesley College 24-3.
Yeshiva won 31 individual matches, including 10 in epee, 10 in sabre and 11 in foil.
In epee, Zelda Saifati led the team with five wins, while
Sarah King had three and
Devora Scott-Thoennes had two.
In sabre,
Michelle Sabbagh won seven matches to lead the team, while
Rani Silvert had two and
Michelle Neiman had one.
In foil,
Emma Rubin led the way with six victories, while
Deborah Laban had three.
Ariella Kerendian and
Tamar Shiller won one match each.
