Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University men's soccer team was defeated in a heartbreaker on Wednesday afternoon as the Maccabees were defeated 4-3 in overtime to the College of Mount Saint Vincent (CMSV) in a Skyline Conference match.
Yeshiva had a 3-0 lead that slipped away in the final twenty-four minutes of the second half as the visiting Dolphins scored four unanswered goals, including three in the second half and the golden goal 8:29 into overtime to steal the win.
Early on the visiting Maccabees were on fire, taking a 2-0 lead at halftime and holding a 3-0 lead early in the second half. CMSV commenced a rally with three goals in a seventeen minute span to tie the game and force overtime before winning it.
Yeshiva took a 1-0 lead in the twentieth minute on a successful penalty kick by
Itamar Ben David. Then midway through the thirty-second minute
Aaron Braun took a centering pass from the left wing by
Sasha Bakal-Schlomann and put it home to make the score 2-0. In the second half, the Maccabees went up three when Braun scored his second goal of the game at 63:07.
CMSV though did not fold and fired a salvo right back at the Maccabees in the final twenty-four minutes of the half to force overtime. Andrew Gomez got the scoring started for the Dolphins with a strike at 65:52 to make the score 3-1. CMSV scored again thirteen seconds later on a goal by Dennis Reyes, and suddenly the Dolphins were within a goal. Then at 82:42, Gomez tied the game for CMSV on a penalty kick to send the game into overtime, before Gomez netted his third goal of the game to win it.
With the loss, Yeshiva falls to 5-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Skyline Conference, while CMSV improves to 3-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the Skyline Conference.
CMSV outshot the Maccabees 23-11 overall, including 9-4 in the first half, 11-6 in the second and 3-1 in overtime.
Ben David led Yeshiva with five shots on goal, while Braun took three. Reyes took nine shots for CMSV.
Yeshiva is back in action on Sunday for a Skyline Conference tilt with Sage College at Fairleigh Dickinson University Field at 4:30 p.m.
