Box Score YONKERS, N.Y. – It was a special evening for the Yeshiva University men's soccer team, as the Maccabees earned a Skyline win in its home opener, 5-0, over Sarah Lawrence College at Tibbetts Brook Park on Wednesday evening. Senior forward
Itamar Ben David scored a hat trick, with the first goal being the 50
th of his collegiate career. He also had two assists for a total of eight points.
For the majority of the opening half, the Maccabees (1-3, 1-1 Skyline) and Gryphons (0-2, 0-1 Skyline) were deadlocked at zero. Yeshiva kept putting on the pressure, but had no goals to show for it. That is until Ben David received the ball on a cross from
Aaron Braun and drilled the ball into the back of the cage, for the 50th goal of his career, to give the home team a 1-0 advantage in the 33
rd minute.
Just under three minutes later, Ben David crossed the ball to freshman midfielder
Joel Sadovnic, who headed the ball past the goalkeeper to extend YU's lead to two goals. Both teams went into the half with the score 2-0 in favor of the Maccabees.
Just over three minutes into the second stanza, sophomore
Albert Dichy received a through ball from Braun, sprinted towards the net, and fired the ball past the opposing goalkeeper to make it 3-0 in favor of the Maccabees. Ben David was credited with the secondary assist.
In the 62
nd minute, Ben David struck again, this time tipping the ball into the net off of feeds from Dichy and Braun, giving Yeshiva a more comfortable 4-0 advantage. Ben David's third goal of the match, and 52
nd of his collegiate career, came in the 73
rd minute. His initial shot was stopped by the goalkeeper, but he tipped his own rebound into the net, for the final goal of the contest.
For the evening, Yeshiva outshot Sarah Lawrence 23-16 and had the slight edge in corner kicks 4-3.

Maor Feinstein stopped all six shots on goal he faced to earn the shutout victory.
The Maccabees will be back in action on Sunday, for a Skyline Conference match at Mount Saint Vincent, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
