POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's fencing team competed in the Vassar College Invitational, at the Walker Field House, on Sunday afternoon. YU fell to Army (24-3), Farleigh Dickinson University (21-6), Wellesley College (22-5), Haverford College (24-3), Sacred Heart University (25-2), Drew University (25-2), and Hunter College (16-11).
Sophomore
Batsheva Lasky won five epee bouts during the afternoon, while junior
Sarah Graff was victorious in just as many sabre duels. Sophomore
Dahlia Laury won four bouts in foil.
In the eighth and final round against Hunter, Yeshiva won the sabre bouts, 5-4. Graff and senior
Gal Gir each went 2-1 in their sabre duels against Hunter, while sophomore
Rocky Pincus earned a victory of her own. In foil, Laury and sophomore
Liel Silverstone each earned one win. In epee, Lasky went 2-1, while sophomore
Meira Weisblatt and classmate
Kayla Kamornick each picked up a win of their own.
Back in the first round against Army, Kamornick and junior
Sara Dobkin each won an epee bout, while Laury earned a win in foil. In the fourth round against Wellesley, Graff earned a win in sabre, while Lasky won all three epee bouts. Dobkin added another epee win of her own. It was not enough, as Wellesley narrowly won the epee flight, 5-4.
Against Haverford, Graff and Pincus each earned a win in sabre. Laury was victorious in one foil bout. Pincus added another sabre victory against Sacred Heart, while Laury earned yet another foil victory over the Pioneers.
Against Drew University, Graff earned a win in sabre, while Weisblatt tallied one epee victory.
Yeshiva will return to the Walker Field House on Sunday, for the Matt Lampell Hudson River Invitational, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
