BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's fencing team opened the 2017-18 season by competing in the Long Island University Post Invitational, at the Pratt Recreation Center, on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva competed against Wellesley College, Drew University, host LIU Post, Farleigh Dickinson University, and Wagner College. The Maccabees were defeated in all five matches.
YU fell to Wellesley College, 23-4 in the first contest. Sophomore
Sara Dobkin won two out of three epee bouts. Senior
Gal Gir and sophomore
Rocky Pincus each picked up a victory in sabre.
Sophomore
Meira Weisblatt was victorious in one epee bout against Drew University, while Gir earned another win in sabre. Drew won the team duel, 25-2.
In the 24-3 loss to LIU post, junior
Sarah Graff won a sabre bout, while sophomore
Liel Silverstone and classmate
Dahlia Laury each earned a win in foil.
Dobkin, Weisblatt, and sophomore
Batsheva Lasky each earned epee wins over FDU, with Gir winning a sabre bout. The Knights won the team battle, 20-7.
Against Wagner, Lasky and Dobkin each went 2-1 in epee duels. Gir and Graff each won a bout in sabre, while Laury won a foil duel. Wagner was victorious, 17-9.
The Maccabees will compete in the Vassar Invitational, on Sunday, November 12, at the Walker Field House, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
