Box Score 2 PALISADES PARK, N.J. - The Yeshiva University baseball team suffered a pair of losses to Old Westbury, in a Skyline double-header at Palisades Park, on Friday morning. Yeshiva lost game one, 18-7, and dropped the second game, 17-0.
In the opening game, the Maccabees trailed 2-0 heading to the bottom of the first. In that frame, freshman second baseman
Mordy Kirsch produced the first collegiate hit of his career. Junior shortstop
Shmuli Goldis reached base via a bunt single, moving Kirsch to second. After junior first baseman
Chaim Nosson Rosenberg drew a walk, junior left fielder
Mordechai Cohen produced an RBI by walking with the bases loaded, scoring Kirsch, to cut the Panthers' lead in half. Freshman catcher
Max Goldstein kept the momentum going by singling to left, scoring Goldis and Chaim Nosson Rosenberg to give YU the lead, 3-2. That would be the score after a full inning of play.
Old Westbury responded by scoring five runs in the third to take a commanding 7-3 advantage, and would never look back. The Macs did get one run back in the bottom frame, as a double by
Chaim Nosson Rosenberg scored Goldis for Yeshiva's fourth run.
The Panthers broke the game open with six runs in the sixth and five runs in the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, Kirsch scored his second run of the game, on a single by Cohen. The next batter, Goldstein, drilled a double to left, scoring Cohen and Goldis to round out Yeshiva's offensive production. The Panthers were able to get the final out and win game one.
For the contest, Goldis went 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Goldstein went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in. Kirsch went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Chaim Nosson Rosenberg went 2-for-3 with a run batted in, a double, and a run scored.
On the mound, senior pitcher
Elan Paul pitched a complete game but took the loss.
In the second game, the Panthers (8-5, 2-0 Skyline) scored five runs in the first three innings and never looked back.
Chaim Nosson Rosenberg added another double, while Goldstein and junior outfielder
Eli Lipner produced a hit each. Goldis had a stolen base. Senior pitcher
Rephael Rosenberg started the game for the Maccabees (0-7, 0-4 Skyline) and took the loss.
Yeshiva will host St. Joseph's Long Island in a Skyline double-header, on Sunday at Palisades Park, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
