POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's fencing team competed in the Matt Lampell Hudson River Invitational, at the Walker Field House, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees finished eighth overall and earned a victory over Marist College, 20-1. YU dropped team duels to The College of New Jersey (17-7), Rochester Institute of Technology (20-7), The City College of New York (17-7), Drew University (19-8), the University of Florida (21-6), and host Vassar College (9-1).
In the victory over Marist, junior
Liel Silverstone and freshman
Sabrina Lazbin each earned two victories in foil, while first-year foil fencer
Talya Stehley won one duel.
Against RIT, senior
Sara Dobkin went 2-1 in epee duels, while sophomore
Adina Passy picked up her first collegiate victory. Senior
Gal Gir picked up two wins in sabre, while Stehley added another foil victory.
In the duel against Drew, Silverstone, Lazbin, and Stehley each earned a win in foil. Gir went 2-1 in sabre duels, while Passy earned another victory in epee.
Stehley and Silverstone each won a foil bout over Florida, while Gir went 2-1 in sabre duels. Dobkin earned a saber victory over the Gators. Silverstone came back to earn a win over Vassar, while Dobkin was victorious in a duel over The College of New Jersey.
Yeshiva's epee team edged out CCNY, 5-4. Dobkin won all three of her epee battles, while Passy went 2-1. Silverstone and Lazbin each won a foil bout, while Gir added a win in sabre.
The Maccabees will compete in the NIWFA Invitational, at the Simon Forums, on Sunday, December 2.
