NEWARK, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Nick Russo Halloween Classic, at Branch Brook Park, on Sunday afternoon. New Jersey Institute of Technology hosted the 5k event. It was a race where NCAA runners, and individuals not affiliated with any collegiate institution, can participate in.
Yeshiva University alumnus, and current assistant coach, Jake "Luigi" Schrier participated and earned bronze, with a time of 17:07.23. Yeshiva University head coach Jose "Super Mario" Miranda also competed in the race, finishing 14
th overall, at the 18:20.96 mark.
As for the men's cross country student-athletes, senior
Yonatan Schreiber and junior
Jonathan Greenberg were the first pair of NCAA Division III runners to cross the finish line. Schreiber finished eighth overall, with a time of 17:27.20, while Greenberg was right behind him in ninth place, at 17:40.86.
Senior
Yosef Pfeffer was the 15
th runner to cross the finish line, at the 18:44.34 mark, while sophomore
Zachary Greenberg earned 16
th place, with a time of 18:58.48. The next four Yeshiva runners were senior
Noah Hazan (17
th overall at 18:59.97), junior
Eli Frishman (18
th place at 19:11.84), senior
Arie Barkats (19
th overall at 19:17.81), and sophomore
Joshua Hamburger (20
th place at 19:32.80).
Rounding out the Yeshiva male runners were juniors
Jakob Deutsch (22
nd overall at 19:41.57),
Daniel Elfenbein (23
rd overall at 19:46.56), and Yoni Weisberg (24
th overall at 20:02.67).
On the women's side, junior
Amanda Kasztl finished 19
th overall, with a time of 24:51.56. Senior
Rivka Greenberg was the 20
th runner to cross the finish line, completing the race in 25:08.05. Sophomore
Leeba Goldenhersh earned 21
st place, at 25:34.66, while senior
Libbie Brooks finished 22
nd overall, at 25:36.92. Sophomore
Sarah Russman was the 26
th runner to cross the finish line, at the 27:59.18 mark, while senior
Shira Perton earned 27
th place, at 28:20.60.
The Maccabees will race again in 2019.
