BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's fencing team opened the 2018-19 season by competing in the Long Island University Post Invitational, at the Pratt Recreation Center, on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva earned a win over Hunter College, 19-7, but dropped team duels to Fairleigh Dickinson University (14-12), Wellesley College (25-2), host LIU Post (17-10), Drew University (23-4), New Jersey Institute of Technology (20-7), and Wagner College (23-4).
In the victory over Hunter, junior
Batsheva Lasky went 2-1 in epee duels, while senior
Sara Dobkin earned an epee win of her own. In foil, junior
Liel Silverstone won all three bouts, while freshman
Sabrina Lazbin was also victorious in all three battles. Sophomore
Talya Stehley earned one foil win.
Against FDU, senior
Gal Gir won two out of three sabre duels, while classmate
Brielle Broder and senior
Sarah Graff each won one. Lasky won one epee contest. In foil, Stehley and Lazbin each won a bout.
In the duel against host LIU Post, the foil team earned a narrow win, 5-4. Silverstone and Lazbin each went 2-1 in foil duels, while Stehley earned one victory. Broder and Gir each won a sabre bout.
Against NJIT, Lasky was victorious in one epee bout.
In the battle with Wagner, Graff picked up another sabre victory, while Lasky added two more epee wins. Silverstone earned one win in foil.
Against Drew University, Gir won a battle at sabre, while Dobkin and Lasky each won an epee duel. Silverstone picked up another victory in foil.
In the duel against Wellesley, Graff was victorious in one sabre battle, while Lasky added a win in epee.
The Maccabees will compete in the Vassar Invitational, at the Walker Field House, on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
