Women's Fencing Defeats CCNY and Earns Team Spirit Award at EWFC Championships; Lasky Earns Spot on All-Conference Second Team

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Yeshiva University women's fencing team competed in the EWFC Championships, held at Johns Hopkins University, on Sunday. As a team, the Maccabees finished sixth overall. Yeshiva defeated the City College of New York in a team duel, 20-7, while dropping bouts to Stevens, Vassar, Hunter, Johns Hopkins, Drew, and Haverford. 

It was a special evening for the women's fencing team, as the Maccabees earned the Roi Green Memorial Team Spirit Award.

It was a successful afternoon for the epee team as all three fencers, sophomore Batsheva Lasky, classmate Kayla Kamornick, and junior Sara Dobkin all advanced to the individual bracket tournament. Lasky won the first round of the epee bracket and advanced to the quarterfinal round. She finished eighth overall and as a result, earned EWFC Second Team All-Conference honors. Kamornick finished 15th in epee, while Dobkin finished 16th overall.

The epee team dominated with a 7-2 win over CCNY. Lasky won two out of three battles, while Dobkin and Kamornick each earned a win. The foil team won, 6-3. Sophomore Liel Silverstone, classmate Dahlia Laury, and junior Odelia Tordjman produced a victory each. The sabre team earned a convincing 7-2 win. Senior Gal Gir earned two victories, while sophomore Rocky Pincus, and junior Sarah Graff each picked up one win.

Against Drew, the epee team earned a narrow 5-4 win. Lasky and Kamornick each went 2-1 in their duels, while Dobkin picked up a win of her own. Silverstone won one foil battle.

For the team duel against Hunter, Tordjman and Silverstone each won a foil bout. Graff and Gir each picked up a win in sabre. In epee, Kamornick and Lasky each won two out of three duels, while Dobkin added a win of her own.

Against Vassar, Lasky was victorious in one epee bout, while picking up two more wins against Haverford.

Dobkin went 2-1 in epee duels against Johns Hopkins, while Lasky and Kamornick each earned one win. Laury and Silverstone each won a foil duel.

Graff was victorious in one foil bout against Stevens.

The fencers who qualified will compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional on Sunday, March 11, at Brandeis University.
