NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's fencing team competed in the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference Championships, at Hunter College, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees battled to a tie with the host Hawks, 13-13. Yeshiva dropped team duels to Drew University (26-1), Johns Hopkins University (22-5), Stevens Institute of Technology (27-0), The City College of New York (20-7), Vassar College (22-5), and Haverford College (26-1).
At the end of the event, Yeshiva University claimed the Roi Green Memorial Team Spirit Award for the second year in a row and a record-breaking fourth time overall.
The epee team led the way for the Maccabees, winning three battles as a unit.
Individually, senior
Sara Dobkin qualified for the individual epee bracket and finished 15
th overall. Junior
Batsheva Lasky was right behind her with an 18
th place finish.
In the team duel against Hunter, the epee team was victorious by a score of 7-2. Dobkin earned two epee victories, while Lasky and sophomore
Adina Passy each won one. Senior
Gal Gir took two sabre bouts, while junior
Rocky Pincus was victorious in one. Classmate
Liel Silverstone picked up a pair of foil victories.
The epee team picked up another victory, this time against CCNY, 6-3. Lasky, Dobkin, and Passy each produced two victories. Silverstone notched a win in foil against the Beavers.
Against Vassar, Gir went 2-1 in sabre bouts, while Pincus picked up a sabre win of her own. Lasky and Dobkin each won an epee battle.
The epee team earned a narrow victory over Johns Hopkins, 5-4. Dobkin and Lasky each won a pair of duels, while Passy added a victory of her own.
Pincus won a sabre duel against Haverford.
The YU fencers who qualify will compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional, on the campus of Vassar College, on March 10. Columbia University will serve as the host.
