POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's fencing team competed in the Vassar College Invitational, at the Walker Field House, on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva fell to Army (24-3), Denison University (24-3), Fairleigh Dickinson University (2-25), Wellesley College (15-3), Haverford College (25-2), Sacred Heart University (23-4), Drew University (26-1), and Hunter College (13-11).
Both the Yeshiva epee and foil squads earned victories over Hunter, 6-1 and 5-3, respectively. Juniors
Julia Polster and
Shaina Matveev each earned an epee win. Senior
Ruth Lando won both foil bouts she participated in, while junior
Rebecca Quintas won a foil duel of her own.
Against Sacred Heart University, Polster went 2-1 in epee combat. Matveev added another victory of her own. Lando won another foil duel.
Lando went 2-1 against Army, while Polster won another epee matchup.
Matveev and Polster each won a battle over Denison, while Quintas picked up the lone foil win. The epee duo each earned another victory over FDU.
Quintas and Matveev each won a battle against Haverford, in foil and epee respectively. Lando earned a foil victory over Drew.
Yeshiva will return to the Walker Field House next Sunday for the Matt Lampell Hudson River Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
