NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's cross country team earned gold at the Mount Saint Mary XC Series, at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome, on Sunday afternoon.
Junior
Marshall Northman propelled the Maccabees to the team victory by winning the 5k race, crossing the finish line at the 17:15 mark, 35 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. The Ohio native averaged 5:34 per mile.
"The team has been training well, which led us to a strong start to our season this weekend," Yeshiva University Assistant Coach
Alex Petrecca said. "We knew (Marshall) would have a chance to win today and he ran a smart-controlled race early before making a strong move to the lead and never looking back."
Junior
Jacob Wieder was the fifth runner to complete the race, with a time of 19:41. Second-year runner
Aaron Purow (20:20) and sophomore
Gadiel Polster (20:27) finished in ninth and tenth respectively.
Senior
Avi Bodoff made his season debut with a 13
th-place finish (22:14), while first-year runner
Yisroel Tannenbaum ran his first collegiate race and by placed 17
th (24:17).
Yeshiva scored 19 points as a team. It's the first meet YU has won since coming in first place at the York College (N.Y.) Invitational on September 23, 2018.
"I'm proud of how the whole group competed today and it's a great sign for the rest of the fall season," Petrecca said.
The Maccabees will run again after the holiday break.
