POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's fencing team competed in the Matt Lampell Hudson River Invitational, on the campus of Vassar College, on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva earned a hard-fought victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 5-4.
Senior
Chaya Ehrenburg led the Maccabees to the victory by winning all three sabre bouts. Classmate
Leorah Lalezari won two out of three sabre battles.
During the day, Yeshiva dropped team duels to Army (24-3), Rochester Institute of Technology (20-7), Drew University (26-1), The City College of New York (20-7), Bryn Athyn College (23-4), and Vassar College (23-4).
Senior
Julia Polster had a strong afternoon for the Maccabees, going 12-7 in epee duels. The epee captain went 3-0 against both Army and Bryn Athyn, plus won two out of three bouts each versus CCNY and RIT. The Skokie native also picked up a win against Vassar and claimed a bout versus Drew.
Lalezari also finished over the .500 mark for the afternoon, going 11-10 in sabre combat. The Los Angeles native won all three bouts over both CCNY and RIT, plus took two out of three battles against host-Vassar. The sabre captain also picked up a win against Bryn Athyn.
Ehrenburg had a strong season debut, winning seven sabre duels. In addition to her undefeated performance against RPI, she went 2-1 against both CCNY and RIT.
Yeshiva will return to action on Sunday, January 29, for the Eric Sollee MIT Invitational, on the campus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Start time is to be announced.
