Lalezari's Strong Performance Highlights Women's Fencing Team's Season Opener at Rangers Fall Invitational II

MADISON, N.J. – The Yeshiva University women's fencing team made its 2022-23 season debut at the Rangers Fall Invitational II, at the Simon Forum, on Sunday morning. The Maccabees dropped team duels to Lafayette College (25-2), Long Island University (27-0), University of Pittsburgh (24-3), Denison University (23-4), Rutgers University (18-6), and University of Florida (22-5).

Leading the way for the Maccabees was senior Leorah Lalezari who went 9-8 in sabre bouts during the day. The sabre captain won all three of her bouts against Florida, went 2-for-2 over Rutgers, and won two out of three battles against Pittsburgh. The Los Angeles native also added a victory against Lafayette and Denison.

In epee, senior Julia Polster won seven duels, including 2-1 records over Florida and Denison. The epee captain also claimed battles against Lafayette, Rutgers, and Pittsburgh. Classmate Shaina Matveev won an epee bout over Denison.

Yeshiva will compete in the Vassar College Invitational, at Walker Field House, on Sunday. The action begins at 10:00 a.m.
