STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's fencing team competed in the Brian Palestis Memorial Invitational, hosted by Wagner College at the Spiro Center, on Sunday afternoon. The YU epee team earned a victory over the City College of New York, 6-3.
Yeshiva Epee Team's Triumph: Leading the way for the Maccabees was senior
Julia Polster, who went 8-4 in epee combat. She led her weapon squad to the victory over CCNY by winning all three of her battles with the Beavers. The Skokie native also went 3-0 against Hunter College and won a bout each against Wagner College and Lafayette College.
Senior
Shaina Matveev also played a key role in the YU epee team's win against City College by winning two out of three bouts over the Beavers. She also notched a win against Wagner.
In her collegiate debut, junior
Chana Fischer won a pair of battles, one against CCNY and the other over Hunter.
YU Victories in Sabre: Sophomore
Rachel Jian won a sabre duel over both CCNY and Hunter.
The Yeshiva Women's Fencing Team Overall: The YU women's fencing program dropped team battles to Wagner (25-2), CCNY (20-7), Hunter (14-7), and Lafayette (23-2). The Yeshiva epee team just fell short to Hunter, 5-4.
