POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Drawing their swords for the first time in the new year, Yeshiva women's fencing traveled up to Vassar College for the Matt Lampel Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 21.
Up at Vassar for the second time this season, the Maccabees faced off with some of the best teams the region has to offer, including The United States Military Academy at West Point, Bryn Mawr College, Hunter College, Vassar College, Swarthmore College, The City College of New York and the Rochester Institute of Technology.
The Macs now sport a 4-27 record on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva struggled early, falling in their first four matches. The Macs dropped their contest with Army by a score of 3-18, Bryn Mawr by 6-21, Hunter by 5-22, and Vassar by 0-27.
- Finally finding their footing come the afternoon, YU captured two wins against a pair of quality opponents. In round five, the Macs downed Swarthmore 11-9, seeing wins in all three sword types, carried by Sarah Tobias, Yitta Weinheber, Rachel Jian and Beth Glantz.
- Bringing that momentum into the next round, YU toppled crosstown rival CCNY by a score of 13-12, winning thanks to excellent sword work from Jian, Glantz, Tobias, Weinheber and Nikki Bittman.
- Coming within inches of three consecutive wins, Yeshiva closed out the day with a close loss to RIT, falling 14-13.

The Macs will travel to Fairleigh Dickinson University on Sunday, Feb. 11.
