MADISON, NJ - Closing out their season on a high note, the Yeshiva women's fencing team posted excellent results at the EWFC Championships, hosted by Drew University.
The Maccabees competed against a number of the conference's top teams, taking on The City College of New York, Wellesley College, Drew University, Stevens Institute of Technology, Johns Hopkins University and Hunter College.
For their achievements with the sword and in the classroom, a number of Macs were named to the All-Tournament Teams.
Hannah Wakslak earned a spot on the All-Academic Team, while
Rachel Jian represented YU on the Woman of the Year Team.
As the final bout ended, the Macs finished the tournament ninth of ten teams, and closed out their 2023-24 season with a record of 5-38.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Macs kicked off the day with a bang, taking down CCNY by a score of 14-13 in a hotly contested match. Yeshiva started strong in sabre, seeing three wins out of Jian and two out of Beth Glantz to go up 5-4. While the Beavers were able to tie the contest at 9-all after a 5-4 foil split, YU secured their win in epee, as bout victories from Nikki Bittman, Yitta Weinheber and Sarah Tobias carried the women in blue and white to a 5-4 margin, closing the match out, 14-13.
- While Yeshiva would continue to post solid results throughout the day, the Macs would not capture another win. YU played five more matches on the day, falling 27-0 to Wellesley, 19-2 to Drew, 25-2 to Stevens, 26-0 to Johns Hopkins and 20-7 to Hunter.
- By the end of the day, the Macs as a squad placed 6th overall in sabre, 10th in foil and 8th in epee.
