Women’s Fencing Picks Up First Win at Matt Lampell Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Flashing their swords for the first time in 2025, the Yeshiva Women's Fencing Team showed out at the Matt Lampel Hudson River Invitational, traveling up to Vassar College to open the calendar year.

Competing against teams from all across the northeast, the Maccabees shared the mat with the Rochester Institute of Technology, Vassar College, Bryn Mawr College, Swarthmore College and Hunter College

At the end of the tournament, YU's record on the year stood at 1-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yeshiva started off the day strong with a 14-10 win over Rochester. Nikki Blitman and Leora Schramm led the way for the Macs with two wins a piece, while Meira Novick, Dina Faye Bendel and Sarah Tobias all picked up points of their own.

  • However, the Maccabees could not keep up that same momentum, falling in rounds three four, five and seven.

  • YU lost to Vassar by a score of 18-8, Bryn Mawr by a score of 17-10, Swarthmore by a score of 13-11, and Hunter by a score of 19-8.

UP NEXT
Taking on their swords on the road in just a week's time, the Maccabees will travel up to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the Eric Sollee Invitational.
