TEANECK, NJ - Traveling across the Hudson River, the Yeshiva Women's Fencing Team competed in the FDU Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 9th.
The Maccabees crossed swords with: Hunter College, Fairleigh Dickinson University, The City College of New York, Drew University and Lafayette College.
With the result, the Macs are now 2-20 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maccabees struggled in rounds one and two, falling by a score of 23-4 to both Hunter and FDU.
- However, Yeshiva surged in round three versus CCNY. In sabre, Rachel Jian shone with a perfect 3-0 record. In foil, Leora Schramm tallied three bout wins, while Yaffa Gottlieb picked up two and Sofia Rauh one. In epee, Sarah Tobias and Nikki Blitman both went undefeated with three points, while Meira Novick notched one. The combined effort resulted in a 16-11 win, the Macs' first since January.
- Unfortunately, Yeshiva could not keep up that same momentum in rounds four and five, being downed by Drew and Lafayette 25-2 and 21-4 respectively.
UP NEXT
Competing in their first EWFC event of the season, the Macs will travel out to Drew University for the EWFC Championships on Sunday, Feb. 16th.
